| Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and as such is difficult to observe from Earth based telescopes. Only the Mariner 10 spacecraft has visited Mercury during three separate fly-bys. Only a small percentage of the planet was ever imaged leaving the rest of the planet unknown. For general information on Mercury, visit Mercury from the Views of the Solar System web site. |
